Beet and apple salad with smoked salmon

A healthy lunch or dinner salad that is super easy and convenient.

Meet a New Ingredient

Finding and using a new ingredient (or rediscovering an old favourite) can be an exciting and adventurous experience in the kitchen. Learn about these interesting ingredients, where to find them and how to use them in your weekly menu!

Horseradish is native to Russia and Hungary. Mentions of it are made throughout history including in Greek mythology and the greatest bards works, Bill Shakespeare. And why not, horseradish adds a large burst of flavour with very few calories and very little fat.

Horseradish is versatile and can be used for meat and vegetable dishes. Creamy horseradish sauce is often served as a condiment for steak or prime rib. Or add horseradish to make amazing deviled eggs, spicy potato salad, and a homemade mayonnaise that has a great kick.

Horseradish contains a number of important nutrients, including: calcium, magnesium, potassium, folates, vitamin C and zinc.

 

HWFL Mindfulness Note - Nothing is ever off limits, but please be careful with supermarket horseradish e.g Masterfoods Horseradish Cream as it has additional oils etc that can add up quickly.
